LEF forged a partnership with the Municipal Local Government of
Libertad for a Municipal-wide Tree Planting Program
Today's Date -- LEF Executive Director Cora Z. Sayre
met with the municipal mayor of Libertad, Alberto B. Acain and his
municipal agriculturist, Jing Sabarao on August 6, 2003 at the LEF office
in Gimaylan, to tresh-out details of a tree planting and environment
management agreement covering the farmers associations organized by the
Municipal Agricultural Office of Libertad. To start with, LEF will release
to the municipality 10,000 seedlings of mahogany to be planted in schools,
roadsides, open lands and municipal properties. The LGU will assist in
mobilizing the local citizenry in planting and taking care of the growing
seedlings. This time of the year is timely for tree planting because it is
the onset of the rainy season. It's expected that this partnership would
be long-term and would involve the improvement of the environment in the
municipality.
